The LC3 Armchair, designed in 1928 by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand, is a true modernist classic that redefined what comfort and structure could look like in furniture design. Often referred to as a “grand confort” (great comfort) chair, the LC3 combines minimalist geometry with plush luxury in a way that’s both visually striking and deeply inviting.
At first glance, the LC3 Armchair is instantly recognisable for its external steel frame, which wraps around the chair like a cube, outlining its form and supporting the cushions from the outside. This tubular steel frame (stainless steel (grade 304) gives the chair its bold, industrial edge, while also showcasing the designers’ philosophy of separating structural elements from the soft components.
Thick, generously padded cushions sit inside the frame, upholstered in high-quality leather or fabric. The cushions are wider and more relaxed than those of its sibling, the LC2, making the LC3 feel more lounge-like and casual.
